Course summary
Already building a reputation in the region for innovative practice, the course is taught by Ruth Way (Programme Leader), Adam Benjamin, Benjamin Dunks, Lois Taylor, Jacky Lansley, Jules Laville, Nicola Rosewarne, and guest teachers.
The degree is focused on enabling students to become expressive and articulate dance theatre makers and scholars. Students explore the potential that dance and movement offers to empower others, and engage new audiences and participants. The programme fosters individual creativity and skills and supports professional development.
The course is designed to enable you to work to your particular strengths and personal goals.
Progress to: postgraduate study in dance/theatre/media performance; perform/choreograph; dance and arts management/administration; dance journalism/criticism; community and educational dance and teaching; marketing/funding for dance across the arts sector and industry.
Entry requirements
220-300 points. A level/AS level (80 points from dance or performing arts) or equivalent. BTEC National Diploma: MMM (with a substantial dance/performing arts element). Other relevant qualifications may be considered on an individual basis. Mature candidates without formal qualifications may be considered.
International Baccalaureate: 26 points
Disabled students will be considered on past dance/theatre experience and ability to fulfill degree level studies.
Audition involves an improvisation class and interview - and an opportunity to visit the university, view facilities and talk to staff and students.

Course Structure
Year 1
Focus - exploring different approaches to dance training and investigating the centrality of the body in performance: skills and techniques, improvisation and choreographic tasks, dance analysis and introduction to critical dance studies, performance laboratory and collaborative practice.
Year 2
Focus - dance theatre making and performance, understanding dance as a cultural discourse: choreography workshops, dance theatre productions, exploring performance perspectives and choreographic approaches to the moving body. Options: site-specific performance, physical theatre, dance for the camera, contact improvisation.
Year 3
Focus - advanced performance skills, choreographic practice and community dance - showcase your final dance theatre degree performances, pursue an individual performance research project through a dissertation or practice as research project, or embark on a professional development project to support your future career.
